PALADIN'S SHOW RECORD

If you're looking to own a proven Shire stallion that has it ALL, search no more!  After proudly owning and loving Dapplewoods Paladin for 6 years, he is now FOR SALE to a show home!

One of the best attributes of the modern Shire breed is its temperament, and Paladin is no exception.  He is always alert, inquisitive, and intelligent; yet he is also completely tractable and anxious to please.

Paladin also has the conformation to back up his great attitude!  He is a fabulous example of the modern type Shire horse.  He has great substance and bone to balance his tall height and elegant looking body. The foundation of a draft horse is, and will always be, the feet and legs.  Paladin has an excellent foundation, with flawless feet that are large, sound, and rock hard.  His bone is heavy and flat; on straight, sound legs; and his joints are large, clean, and free-moving.  Without any gimmicks or devices, Paladin's hockset is nothing less than a textbook example of what a judge in the show ring looks for on a Shire!  His deep, sloping shoulder allows for free movement and beautiful action in front, which is backed up by a set of powerful hindquarters with strong joints and muscles in the rear.  Paladin's elegant neck ties in cleanly at the throatlatch to his attractive head, both of which give him a more refined look than many other stallions of his breed. Paladin's topline is one of his best assets, with well- defined withers that extend into a short, strong back and long, gently sloping croup.

This combination of beauty and brains is a winning formula...as you can see in Paladin's impressive halter record at the bottom of the page!

Paladin's unbeatable pedigree includes such greats as Clarach Gay Aristocrat, Garreg William, Edingale Mascot, and Dyfed Grey Prince.  Paladin's dam, Jenson Sampson Nellie, was the 1st place filly foal at the 1999 National Shire Show in Colorado.  Both his sire and dam also have numerous wins from State Fairs and shows in the South and Midwest.  I have had the pleasure of meeting Paladin's sire, dam, and many full- and half-siblings at Dapplewoods Shires in Oklahoma over the years.  Theirs is a bloodline that consistently produces althletic, sane foals with show size and conformation.

Paladin's first foal was born in 2007, and it was clear from day one that she inherited Paladin's gaits, mind, and presence!  Her new owner is as pleased to own her as I was to have bred her.  Avalon's Premier Dahlia can be seen on the Foals page, along with information about the two Shire foals I have due from him in March and April of 2008!

Dapplewoods Paladin stood at stud to a limited number of approved mares in 2007, as I was very picky about who he was bred to.  All breedings (including to my own mares) were via AI-- Paladin is a pro at collecting off of a dummy mare, with phenemonal quality and concentration of semen, as his vet can attest to.  He is an enthusiastic and dependable breeder, who has never once refused to collect in a timely manner whenever asked to.

Paladin's movement and athleticism is exceptional within the Shire breed. Paladin has natural balance, and the ability to collect himself and use his hocks.  His elegant action really turns heads- his gaits under saddle include a light, floating trot and soft, balanced canter. He is very forward and light on his forehand, all of which quite rare for a horse of a draft breed, especially one of his age and training!

Paladin is a stallion who is made to show and work; there is nothing he enjoys more than strutting into a show ring in-hand for a conformation class, or saddled up for his dressage training!  Paladin is regretfully for sale because I do not have the skill or time to help him advance in his dressage training as he should.  He is a horse who needs and loves to be worked with almost daily, and when he is, he advances quickly and enjoys his work.  He is not a horse whose abilities should be wasted by being a pasture pet, or "just" a herd sire.  I want the best for Paladin, and have had to face the reality that I am not able to provide him what he truly deserves.

Paladin's past trainers are both available as references-- both of them believe that he has immense potential in dressage.  His most recent trainer, Bekah Koutsos, had this to say in September 2007:  "[Paladin] is currently in partial training three days a week.  He is learning extremely quickly, and loves a challenge.  He thrives on attention and is establishing a nice solid dressage foundation.  His transitions are light and balanced, his canter has lots of suspension and is spectacular to watch.  His lateral work is coming along nicely, and he is currently schooling first level.  He is forward going with a lot of natural self carriage, and huge movement.  He is more than capable to go through 4th level, and even on to upper levels with the right person.  He has unlimited potential and would give everything he has to anyone who invests time into him."  To learn much more about Paladin's training, please contact me to be put in touch with his trainers!
